The common people on Monday demanded for saving the flood control embankment from Chktabari to Shiberdangi point to save the whole area under Roumari upazila in Kurigram from erosion of the Brahmaputra river. They forwarded the demand from a discussion arranged at Kortimari Khheya Ghat on the Brahmaputra riverbank in the upazila.
Local Member of the Parliament (MP) from Kurigram-4 constituency Md Ruhul Amin addressed the occasion as the chief guest.
Roumari upazila Chairman Mujibur Rahman Bangabashi, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Shafikul Islam, Jadurchar union Chairman Sorbesh Ali and President of local union Awami League Shakhawat Hossain Sabuz, addressed the discussion.
The speakers demanded for taking effective and permanent steps to save the flood protection embankments from Chktabari to Shiberdangi point as soon as possible to save the area from river erosion.
Lawmaker Ruhul Amin called upon the present government for taking immediate steps to save the whole area of Roumari upazila as well as common people, their houses and properties from erosion of the Brahmaputra.
