Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday asked the members of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and courage to protect public life and property.
The Prime Minister was addressing the 36th National Rally of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) at Yead Ali Parade Ground at Ansar-VDP Academy here.
Sheikh Hasina hoped that the members of this force will remain worthy partners and extend support in the future as they did in the past in turning Bangladesh into a poverty- and illiteracy-free middle-income country by 2021 and a modern technology-based prosperous developed country by 2041.
“Through this, we’ll fulfill the dream of our Father of the Nation in building Sonar Bangla,” she added.
The Prime Minister handed over Bangladesh Ansar Medal (Bravery) to three Ansar personnel, President Ansar Medal (Bravery) to seven,
Bangladesh VDP Medal (Bravery) posthumously to one, Bangladesh Ansar Medal (Services) to six, Bangladesh VDP Medal (Services) to six VDP members, President Ansar Medal (Services) to 37 Ansar personnel, President VDP Medal (Services) to 19 VDP members. She also gave 17 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 21 bronze medals to the members of Bangladesh Ansar for their special contribution towards maintaining law and order situation and recovering arms. Besides, special awards were given to 40 Ansar personnel for making special contributions towards maintaining law and order and arms recovery.
Later, she witnessed a cultural programme from the umbrella shade and the handicrafts produced by the Ansar & VDP members. Terming Bangladesh Ansar and VDP a force that belongs to the common people, Hasina said this force has also immense importance as being the country’s biggest and grass root force.
She said, “Each member of this Ansar & VDP force is a partner to the march forward of the country’s development. Some, 42,000 Ansar members have also kept operational the activities of economically important establishment alongside ensuring overall security.”
The Prime Minister mentioned that the strong participation of Bangladesh Ansar at the recently formed Specialized Force Aviation Security to improve security at the airports is a sign of professional excellence. She said the Ansar members have been assisting in maintaining law and order through curbing terrorism in the country’s southwestern region while the officers of Ansar are working with reputation at RAB and Special Security Force (SSF).
The Prime Minister also elaborated various steps, including the construction of modern complexes in 15 battalion headquarters at a cost of Tk 172 crore, undertaken by her government for the development of the Ansar & VDP force. On the occasion, an attractive parade of different contingents of Ansar-VDP was arranged with parade commander Deputy Director Mohammad Syfullah Russell. The Prime Minister inspected the parade riding on an open jeep and took salute.
Earlier on her arrival at the parade ground, Sheikh Hasina was received by Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Senior Home Secretary Dr Mozammel Haque Khan, Director General of Ansar and VDP Major General Md Nazim Uddin. The chiefs of the three services, MPs and senior civil and military officials were present.
