Proposed budget to boost up country’s economy: Lawmakers

Hailing the proposed budget for fiscal 2017-18, the treasury and opposition benches members on Sunday said the allocations for all sectors were rationally made to further boost up the country’s economy.
Terming the new fiscal document a dependable economic tool for self-reliant Bangladesh in near future, they said the government would be successful to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041 riding on implementation of the country’s biggest budget.
Participating in the general discussion in the house, they said the government is pledge-bound to continue to work for the socio-economic and political empowerment of the women and higher education for girls. Bangladesh would create more opportunities for women ensuring their access to politics, business for continuing the country’s image as role model for women empowerment. The MPs said the present government has increased the electricity supply and very soon electricity would reach every house even in the remote areas. Now the power sector is playing a significant role in the socio-economic development.
The lawmakers said the proposed budget is a clear reflection of the visionary intellectuality of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the achievement of Bangladesh has been recognized nationally and internationally and the global awards received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are the evidence of the successes.
The proposed budget proves that Bangladesh is now capable enough to undertake any large project like the Padma brigde by keeping aside any obstacle and also without any foreign support, which together stands out as an inspiration for all of us, they said.
During the discussion, the lawmakers stressed the need for proper implementation of the budget and urged the mass people to work jointly in this regard.
Terming proposed budget as ‘visionary’, treasury bench lawmaker Nurul Haq said the proposed budget shows the income as much as Taka 2, 93,494 crore while the deficit is Taka 1,06,772 crore which to be managed from the foreign credits and grants and it is not impossible to implement the mega budget.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed the country’s biggest ever budget on June 1 for 2017-18 targeting the GDP growth at 7.4 percent and delineating a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern state by 2041.
The lawmakers in their discussions also paid their heartfelt tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
Lawmakers Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Muhibur Rahman Manik, Shawkat Chowdhury, AKM Fazlul Haque, Begum Fazilatunnesa, Anupam Shahjahan Joy, Kazi Rosy, Begum Noorjahan begum M A Malek,and Feroza Begum chinu took part today in the general discussion on the national proposed budget.
