Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday said that the proposed budget ‘absolutely ignored people’s lives and livelihoods as well as humanity’ during this COVID-19 pandemic.
In his reaction, immediately after placing the national budget for 2020-21 fiscal year at the Jatiya Sangsad by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the GDP and revenue collection target was ‘visibly tantamount to cheating.’
The former commerce minister said that big amounts were allocated in the budget for mega projects that were already questionable and could be avoided.
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, Khasru said, the health and social safety sectors should have been given highest priority.
‘But depriving the sectors of allocation and allocating money in the mega projects means continuing corruption,’ he said.
‘I think that the process proposed in the budget for making black money white is an attempt to continue corruption,’ Khasru said.
