Proposed budget foresees self-reliant BD in next 5 yrs

Treasury bench members on Tuesday described the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2016-17 as a dependable tool for self-reliant Bangladesh in near future, precisely in the next five years.
Taking part in a general discussion on the proposed budget for 2016-17, they said the government would be able to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041 by implementing the country’s first ever-biggest budget.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on June 2 placed the country’s first ever biggest budget for 2016-2017 targeting the GDP growth at 7.2 percent and delineating a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Hailing the new fiscal document, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said the budget is self-reliant, not dependent on foreign aid. This budget proves that Bangladesh is now capable enough to undertake any large project like the Padma brigde by keeping aside any odd or obstacle and also without any foreign support, which together stands out as an inspiration for all of us, he said.
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken 10 mega projects including the longest ever Padma Bridge, which after implementation would bring about a positive change in the life of all people in Bangladesh, Selim also said.
Demanding the arrest of BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia, Selim alleged that Khaleda Zia, who holds the Holy Religion Islam in her words only, has joined hands with the ‘Feraun’ (The Muslim’s enemy) only to grab power. She is now out with another “August 21 mission” to kill Sheikh Hasina, he said adding that the BNP-Jamaat clique is behind all killings to tarnish the image of Bangladesh abroad.
Khaleda Zia’s son Tariq Zia, now in London, has been trying to kill Prime Minister’s son and ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed, Selim said adding that BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury met Israeli politician Safadi to hatch a ‘conspiracy’ to topple Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Selim prayed to the Almighty Allah for the long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, so that she can complete her major tasks to make Bangladesh a developed country through her outstanding performance.
During the discussion, State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Sri Biren Sikder termed the budget highly ambitious and said the fiscal plan is a document of real development.
He said the allocation in the proposed budget should be use properly and it would boost the country’s economy further in education, power, agriculture, health, gas and other areas. Another treasury bench member Kazi Keramot Ali stressed the need for concerted efforts to gear up the development activities of the country.
“The proposed budget is balanced and welfare-oriented,” he said hailing the new fiscal measures depicting the way to transforming the country into a role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Opposition Bench Member AKM Maidul Islam said the budget can be implemented if the authorities concerned can ensure a proper revenue collection and restore discipline and peace side by side with fighting corruption in the financial sector including banks and insurances.
Treasury bench members – State Minister for Women and Children Meher Afroz, Rezaul Karim Hira, Tipu Munshi, Dr Amanullah, Dr Habib-e-Millat, Aftabuddin Sarkar also took part in the general discussion.
During the discussion, they stressed the need for proper implementation of the budget and urged the mass people to work jointly in this regard. If all of you put in your best efforts from your respective positions, the new budget will surely add many more new feathers in the cap of successes being achieved by the present government, they said.
Earlier, they paid their heartfelt tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
