Liberation War Affairs Ministry will send a proposal to the Prime Minister for giving the VIP status to all freedom fighters of the country.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq on Sunday said this in Parliament, responding to a written question of independent MP M Rustam Ali Farazi (Pirojpur-3).
Mozammel said that to provide the VIP status to the freedom fighters, his ministry sent letters to all ministries seeking their opinion as per the directive of the Finance Ministry. All the ministries have since sent their opinion to the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.
“As per the opinions and directives of the Finance Ministry, the matter will be sent to the Prime Minister for her consideration,” he said.
The Liberation War Affairs Minister also said that his ministry sent a proposal to the Finance Ministry to give VIP status to the gallantry award winning freedom fighters and the war wounded freedom fighters.
Replying to a starred tabled question of SM Abul Kalam Azad (Dhaka-17), he said that the government does not have a complete list of ‘Birangana’ (war heroines).
“But the government has taken steps to prepare such a list.”
Responding to another tabled starred question of MA Malek (Dhaka-20), Mozammel said that the Liberation War Affairs Ministry is taking an initiative to prepare a list of the members of Bengal Liberation Front (BLF), popularly known as ‘Mujib Bahini’, as the government also has no list of these freedom fighters.
