Properties worth Tk4 lac gutted in Bagerhat fire

Properties worth Taka more than 4 lakh were gutted when a dwelling house belonging to one Selim Shaikh of village Sugandhi within Rakhalgachi Unmion under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district caught fire on Saturday at noon, according to a report received here. The cause of fire could not be identified. But it is guessed that the fire was originated from a burning oven of the kitchen or from an electricity short circuit.
It is learnt from the affected family source that on the day at noon when all the inmates were absent from the house it caught fire and within moments it engulfed the whole house. On seeing the flame of fire neighbouring people and the villagers rushed to the spot and brought it under control after a long fighting for half an hour. But in spite of that the dwelling house along with its all belongings including cash Tk.56 thousand and 7 mounds rice were burnt to ashes.
Another report states that a dwelling house of one Al-Mamun of village Radhballav within Karapara Union under the same Upazila in the district was partially gutted when some ones set fire on it on Friday at mid night out of enmity. On seeing the flame of fire the villagers ran to the spot and extinguished the fire. But by this time a portion of the house was gutted.
In this connection Md. Mohsin, brother of the house owner lodged a GD with Bagerhat Model PS stating that a number of miscreants led by one Shahidul Islam set fire on the house out of previous enmity with the house owner.
