Properties worth Tk 50 lakh gutted in Morrelganj

Properties worth Tk.50 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Polerhat village market under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday afternoon.
On the day the fire originated from a shop of the market spread to its adjacent shops and went out of control within moments. The local people tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. Being informed of the matter a fire brigade unit rushed to the spot from Morrelganj Upazila headquarters and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour with the help of the locals. But in spite of that 5 big tin shed shops were completely gutted with their all belongings. Three of them were grocery shops, one grocery cum petrol and diesel oil shop and one bakery cum restaurant. The affected shopkeepers are Lokman Shaikh, Sohrab Khan, Shahid Khan, Wazior Shaikh and Sirajul Shaikh.
 Md. Haidar Ali Akon, Station Officer of Morrelganj Fire Brigade disclosed, being informed of the matter a fire unit went to the spot and extinguished the fire. By this time five big shops were gutted. He added, it is guessed that the fire was, perhaps, originated from an electricity short circuit
