Proper utilisation of water bodies to increase fish production stressed

Speakers at a daylong training course have stressed for ensuring proper utilisation of the water bodies, involving the real fishermen, to increase fish production for meeting nutritional demand and cutting poverty rate.
They were addressing concluding ceremony of the daylong training course organised by Upazila Fisheries Department under the Integrated Agriculture Productivity Project at Officers’ hall room in Gangachara upazila town here on Monday afternoon.
A total of 25 small and marginal fish farmers of Kolkond Union Fish Farming group from all over Kolkond union in the upazila participated in the training course.
District Fisheries Officer Rawshan Ara Begum attended the ceremony as the chief guest with Gangachara Upazila Fisheries Officer Rezaul Kabir in the chair.
In their speeches, the speakers stressed for proper utilisation of the water bodies, beels, canals, haors and flood plains by bringing those under fish cultivation to make the country self-sufficient on fish output in near future.
They put emphasis on transferring latest pisciculture technologies to the farmers to protect native fishes, including small indigenous ones, for enhancing fish production to meet increasing protein demand of all people and improve rural economy.
They called for finding out the real fishermen and giving lease of the government water bodies to them along with providing necessary assistance to increase production of fish and explore tremendous economic prospect of the fisheries sector.
The chief guest suggested the concerned officers for bringing all prevailing water bodies under proper management to boost fish production.
She put emphasis on increasing fish production to achieve economic self-reliance by the rural people, including fishermen community, after meeting their own nutritional demand side by side making the country self-reliant on fish production.
