Speakers emphasized to create social awareness to ensure proper use of land to avoid acute scarcity in future.
The opinion came yesterday at a day-long divisional level workshop on ‘Land Zoning’ organised by the Ministry of Land under the National Land Zoning Project (NLZP) at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in Rangpur.
The Rangpur divisional and district administrations extended cooperation in arranging the workshop with a view to protect the agricultural land and ensure planned use of land as per category for greater national interests.
The Deputy Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, Assistant Commissioners (Land) and officials concerned from all eight districts under Rangpur division took part in the workshop. Secretary to the Ministry of Land Mesbah Ul Alam attended the workshop as the chief guest with Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed in the chair.
Project Director of the NLZP Shawkat Akbar, Additional Divisional
Commissioners Minu Sheel (General) and Abdul Mazid (Revenue) as special
guests addressed the event moderated by Deputy Director (Local Government)
for Rangpur Sultana Parveen.
The chief guest informed that the authorities concerned already started
conducting land-zoning activities throughout the country for ensuring proper
land management and use of land in a planned-way.
“The cultivable land area has been decreasing every year following unplanned
urbanisation, industrialisation and construction of houses here and there
though the country’s population doubled since the independence,” he said.
He suggested the officials concerned for smoothly conducting land zoning
activities to ensure category-wise proper use of land in a planned way and
enforcing the related land laws, if necessary, to save cultivable land of the
country.
