Speakers here have stressed for proper implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2009 with a view to ensure free flow of information and the peoples’ right to know in establishing accountability at all levels for building a corruption-free society.
The observations came yesterday at a post-rally discussion jointly organised by the District Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) and ‘Sochetan Nagorik Committee (SNC)’ at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
The district administration, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and RDRS Bangladesh extended assistance in arranging the programmes in observance of the International Rights to Information Day -2017.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman attended the discussion as chief guest with President of District CPC Rakibul Hasan in the chair.
Deputy Director of Rangpur District Combined Office of ACC Mozahar Ali Sarder, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ruhul Amin Mian, President of Rangpur district unit of SNC Mosfeka Razzaque, General Secretary of the District CPC Akbar Hossain, among others, addressed.
Mosfeka Razzaque discussed about the RTI Act, 2009 in details and highlighted the commitment and steps taken by the government for proper implementation of the Act.
The speakers said enactment of the RTI Act, 2009 is one of the biggest successes of the government as the law has factually turned into an effective tool to ensure the peoples’ right to know information.
They said proper implementation of the RTI Act could ensure free flow of information to establish transparency, accountability and good governance at all levels for reducing corruption.
Akbar Hossain called for disseminating knowledge among the common people about the RTI Act to make them aware about their rights to know information from all government and non-government organisations.
The chief guest urged the officials concerned in all government and non- governmental departments and organisations to disseminate information to the common people properly.
