Teachers should have appropriate knowledge on information and communication technology (ICT), preparing teaching methodologies and teaching skills to make lessons easily understandable.
Education experts viewed this at inaugural ceremony of a 24-day training course on ‘Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for ICT, Bangladesh & Global Studies and Chemistry at Rangpur Government Teachers’ Training College (GTTC) yesterday.
The Teaching Quality Improvement-II (TQI-II) in Secondary Education Project of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education has been organising the training course for enhancing ICT and teaching skills of the teachers.
A total of 240 Assistant Headmasters, Assistant Chiefs and teachers of ICT, Bangladesh & Global Studies and Chemistry from 240 secondary level non-government schools, colleges, Dakhil and Alim Madrasas of Rangpur division have been participating in the course that will end on February 7 next.
Director (Training) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education from Dhaka Professor Md Shamsul Huda attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest with Acting Principal of Rangpur GTTC Md Amjad Hossain in the chair.
Divisional Deputy Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Mostaq Habib and Course Coordinator of the TQI-II Project and Assistant Professor of Rangpur GTCC Md. Rawshan Alam were present as the special guests.
The course is aimed at enhancing professional skill of Assistant Headmasters and concerned teachers of secondary level educational institutions through CPD training on ICT and other subjects under the 5-year term (2012-2017) TQI-II Project to improve education standard.
While addressing the ceremony, a number of participating teachers said the training course would help them in learning on preparing digitised contents, teaching plans and methodologies and conducting classes using digitised ICT-based technologies.
Mostaq Habib called the participating teachers to remain updated with latest technologies as a complete change has taken place in the education sector, standard of education improved and the young generations know more than the older generations.
He also suggested the participating teachers to share the knowledge they would acquire from the training course with their colleagues to enrich their knowledge too on properly teaching the students to make them worthy citizens for the 21st century.
In his speech, chief guest Professor Huda advised the participating teachers for making classes more interesting using the ICT-based knowledge, digitised technologies and teaching skills for holding the students in classrooms.
“The students are collecting information now easily for education using
internet and they would not remain in classrooms unless the teachers have
adequate ICT knowledge and proper teaching skills to make the lessons easily
understandable,” he said.
