Speakers at a view exchange meeting put emphasis on the need for proper health management system to ensure healthcare facilities for the ultra-poor people especially in the rural areas.
They also called for making upazila and community level hospitals effective, so that the extreme poor people can get sufficient healthcare facilities.
Advocacy for Social Change of Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) organised the daylong meeting under its Targeting the Ultra Poor (TUP) Project at Upazila Health Complex auditorium, Pirgachha in the district on Wednesday.
Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer, Pirgachha Dr. Shah Mojahedul Islam Ranju presided over the meeting while Dr. S.M Ashiqur Rahat Pulok, Residential Medical Officer (RMO), Pirgachha Health Complex, Md. Shajahan, Upazila Family Planning Officer, Pirgachha were present as special guests. Among others Dr. Fahim Muntaqim, Dr. Abu Hena Md. Ashraful Islam Royel, Dr. Swades Barman, HI Mosfikar Rahman were also present in the meeting.
Md. Babul Islam, Upazila Manager BRAC, Pirgachha delivered the welcome speech. Most. Ummay Sumiya Sultana, Branch Manager, BRAC, TUP, Pirgachha presented the Targeting the Ultra Poor (TUP) programme of BRAC. Md. Harun-ar-Rashid, Branch Manager, BRAC Health Programme, Pirgachha narrated various health service programmes of the organisation. Md. Minhajul Islam, Social Communicator, Advocacy for Social Change, BRAC, Rangpur presented the keynote paper and described the aims and objectives of the project arranged for reaching the services being provided under the TUP Project to the ultra poor people in the rural areas giving special priority and the success achieved so far.
BRAC under its health programme is providing health services to some 120 million people in all the 64 districts of the country. The organisation also provided free health service to a total of 4,64,300 extreme poor families during the year of 2002-2013. Its services include vaccination, nutrition, family planning, TB and malaria control, health service for the people with disabilities etc.
