World Autism Awareness Day observed: Proper care can flourish talents of autistic children

The 10th World Autism Awareness Day was observed in the district on Sunday with a call to create mass awareness about autism and improve the condition of autistic children.
Department of Social Service and District administration jointly organized a rally led by Deputy Commissioner Dr Shubash Chandra Biswas.
A number of disable children with their guardians, government and non-
government officials carrying placards and festoons participated the rally which paraded the main roads of the town.
A discussion meeting was held at local circuit house. Golam Mostafa Deputy Director, Department of Social Services of the district was in the chair.
DC Dr Shubash Chandra Biswas addressed the discussion as the chief guest while Police Super Amena Begum BPM, Civil Surgeon Sultana Razia and Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Faizul Hoque addressed as special guests.
Among others residential medical officer of Sadar Hospital, Dr Amirul Islam Shamim, In-charge of disabled help center Ashraful Alam, executive director of PAPRI (local non-government organization) Abu Based, executive director Spondan (local NGO) Balel Hossain and Sanaullah a guardian of autistic child spoke on the occasion.
Speakers discussed on the theme of the day “Toward Autonomy and Self-Determination”. They stressed for identifying the autistic children with more care because it is very much complicated to separate this genetically neurological disorder problem with the mentally disabled children.
Speakers also emphasized on enhancing the communication skill of their autistic children carefully with sympathetic approach alongside the counseling of the parents and family members of the concern children.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Speakers at a post-rally discussion here said the autistic and mentally retarded children could flourish their latent talents if they were properly cared, nurtured and provided with necessary opportunities.
They emphasised on creating adequate awareness among the pregnant mothers and parents to reduce the risk of autism and physical disability of newborn babies.
They were addressing the discussion jointly organised by Women and Child Assistance (FWCA) at Moonlight Convention Centre in the city on Sunday in observance of the 10th World Autism Awareness Day-2017.
Earlier, a huge rally, participated by autistic and disabled people was brought out in the city. Children, government and non-government officials, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations, professionals, human rights and women activists joined the rally.
