Proper care, attention, education and training can ensure normal growth and flourish inherent talents of autistic and neuro-developmentally disabled children to turn them into worthy citizens.
The opinion came at an upazila level orientation workshop organised by National Academy for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disabilities at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the sub-Himalayan Panchagarh district town on Thursday.
The Autistic Academy Establishment Project of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education under the Ministry of Education through Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Office extended assistance in arranging the workshop.
Chairmen of all unions and heads of different educational institutions under Panchagarh Sadar upazila, teachers and journalists from the print, electronic and online media participated in the workshop.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila parishad Chairman and General Secretary of district Awami League Anwar Sadat Samrat attended the workshop as the chief guest with Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Muntejari Deena in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Secondary Education Officer Borhan Uddin and Sadar Upazila Education Officer Masud Hassan were present as special guests.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Afroza Begum Reena delivered keynote presentation elaborately discussing on autism and neuro-developmental disabilities in the workshop. Lecturer of Rangpur Government Teachers’ Training College Halimuzzaman Khandker took part as the main discussant.
The speakers said the autistic, neuro-developmentally disabled and physically challenged children have enormous latent talents and they equally deserve constitutional rights in getting all privileges.
They called upon all concerned to come forward with holistic approaches to flourish inherent talent of the autistic and neuro-developmentally disabled children to make them worthy citizens through proper nurturing and providing them opportunities.
The chief guest called upon the participating teachers for taking proper care and giving due attention to the autistic and neuro-developmentally disabled children in the classrooms for flourishing their talents.
He specially thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul for taking steps in establishing rights of the autistic and neuro-developmentally disabled children by ensuring education, health care, training and other facilities.
