BSS, Dhaka :
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim underlined the need for projecting real history to new generation about the country’s War of Liberation, Bangabandhu and the four national leaders. “They (new generation) have to be brought to the root of history and they should be inspired with the spirit of the country’s Great War of Liberation,” he said.
Nasim, also a Presidium Member of the ruling Awami League, said this while speaking at a discussion organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) marking the historic Mujibnagar Day that falls today.
Referring to the “falsehood” spread by a vested quarter regarding the emergence of independent Bangladesh and Bangabanadhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding father, Nasim said a depressed political party which is now at dying condition has been distorting history to sustain its existence.
“They would not achieve anything positive by distorting history as the people of the country know the actual history,” he said adding that the BNP leaderships had been trying to mislead people by distorting history many times in the past to gain petty political interest.
He said the people of the country would not pardon anybody who will try to distort history of Bangladesh.
Coming down heavily against BNP leaders for carrying out massive “atrocities” across the country before and after the January 5 general election, Nasim said the BNP had burnt many people to death and went on rampage and arson attacks on different establishments and even at different places of worships to foil the polls.
“But, people’s lack of participation at its (BNP’s) anti-government movement had destroyed their evil design,” he added.
The minister also referred various development programmes undertaken by the present Awami League government for the welfare of the country.
About the next general election, the minister categorically said that the next election would be held in time and under the present government as per the constitution. “Please reorganize your party by discarding war criminals. If you do so, the people will remain beside you,” he advised BNP Chairperson Begum Zia. Presided over by President of the organization Advocate Tarana Halim, MP, among others, veteran politician Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Awami League leaders Ahmed Hossain, Advocate Afzal Hossain, Baloram Poddar and Barrister Zakir Ahmed took part in the discussion.
