Project for preserving memories of Liberation War inaugurated

The project for preserving memories of Liberation War at Barisal Water Development Board campus was inaugurated on Wednesday noon.
Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner was present as chief guest.
It was presided over by Sk. Qutubuddin, Commander of district Muktijoddha Command and the officials of Muktijoddha Sangsad, Barisal City Corporation, Water Development Board attended the programme.
The project at the cost of 3.31 cores included preservation of torture cell, bunkers, mass killing ground, construction of link roads, electrification, beautification etc and scheduled to be completed within two years.
The project scheduled to be started on June 20, 2017 and ended within two years, but delayed due to bureaucratic formalities and objection of WDB. Which later solved by the inactive of district administration, concerned ministries decided to start work.  
Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, organizing commander of district Muktijoddha Sangsad, said Pakistan occupation army capturing Barisal district town on April 25, 1971 created their regional headquarter at the the-then water and power development authourity (WAPDA) office premises considering its convenience in connecting the spot with the region by road and water.
They created bunkers, torture-cell, mass killing ground as well as mini-cantonment there.

After liberating Barisal town on December 8, 1971, the occupation army and their leading associates left the area and the spot freed after rest of the associates surrendered before the freedom fighters on December 18, 1971.

However since then the spots like four bunkers, two torture cells, mass killing ground of occupation army remained almost uncared for some decades.

By pressure of the local people and freedom fighters a project of about thirty-five million taka was approved by local government ministry in 1992.

However due to political change over implementation of that project was delayed till tender floated in 2016-17 fiscal.

After that when we tried to implement the project, the local WDB authority giving objection demanding letter from the ministry of water resources about executing project on their land, said Mustak Ahmed, owner of the construction firm Jahanara Enterprise who received the work order.
