The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Pahela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla Calendar Year 1424, on April 14.
President Andul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will give separate messages on the occasion.
Marking the day, special supplements will be published in different dailies highlighting the significance of the day, said an official release here on Tuesday.
The local administrations will arrange cultural functions, village fairs and discussions at the divisional, district and upazilla levels.
In observance of the day, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will undertake a three-day programme.
Improved diets of Banglee food will be distributed among the inmates of jails, hospitals and orphanages in the country, the release added.
Cultural functions will be held at jails and orphanages. Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Folk and Craft Arts Foundation, and archaeological sites under Department of Archaeology will remain open and children, students and persons with disabilities would be allowed to visit free of cost.
