Programmes set to observe Victory Day in dists today

Sylhet District administration has taken elaborate programmes to observe the Victory Day today in a befitting manner. They finalised the programmes at a preparatory meeting where Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md Shohidul Islam presided over it at the conference room of the DC’s office.
As per the programmes, the day will begin through placing wreaths at the Gallamari Martyrs’ Memorial near the city and all the upazila headquarters at zero hours on the day. The programmes, include heralding of 31 gun salutes, placing wreaths at the monuments of the martyred Freedom Fighters (FFs) and Shaheed Minars, hoisting of the national flag atop all the government, semi-government buildings, decoration of the city streets with national flags, miniature posters and banners. March-pasts and physical displays by the FFs, Police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, scouts, students, and screening of documentary films on Liberation War will also be held.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The people from all walks in life here in Rangpur will observe the Victory Day-2014 today (December 16) here through daylong programmes to pay rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RCC), Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, sociocultural and professional organisations, educational institutions and freedom fighters have taken programmes to observe the day.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Workers Parry, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Sector Commanders Forum, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee, Rangpur Sahittya Sangskritik Parishad, Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Rangapur Sahittya Parisat, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi, Shilpokola Academy, Begum Rokeya University, Carmichael College, Rangpur Medical College and other organisations and institutions will observed the day.
The day will be observed with a renewed pledge for working unitedly to make the hard-earned independence meaningful for every citizen through building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The day’s programmes will begin at zero hours after midnight on December 15 with 31-gun salute and placing floral wreaths at Central Shaheed Minar and Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’.
City Mayor Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad and Police Super Abdur Razzaque will first place wreaths there.
Later, leaders of different political parties and their front organisations, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional, human rights and other organisations, NGOs, and common people will place wreaths with due patriotic zeal there.
The programmes also include hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and colored miniature posters and banners.
The Divisional Commissioner will hoist national flag and take salute at the march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, jail guards, boys scout, girls guide, Fire Service and Civil Defense, children and students at Rangpur Stadium.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes, local newspapers will publish special supplementary issues and the District Information Office will screen several documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day at different cinema halls, open places and Town Hall auditorium in the city.
Veteran freedom fighters and relatives of the martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions and the main discussion meeting will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises on the Public Library compound marking the Victory Day.
Drawing competitions for the children on the War of Liberation, shooting competition, special sports competitions for the women, essay competitions, charity football match, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony will be organised.
Improved diets will be served to inmates of different hospitals and health complexes, Rangpur Central Jail, shishu paribars, vagabond centres and orphanages.
Besides, special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for the souls of the martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship.
