Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Divisional and District administrations and other educational and socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year-1422 in a befitting manner in the city today.
The concerned authorities have taken tight security measures to ensure law and order for peaceful celebrations of the day with the spirit of War of Liberation and the rich ancestral cultural heritage of the Bengalis.
The district and upazila administrations and different other organizations have also adopted elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.
RCC has adopted a two-day programmre to say goodbye to 1421 and celebrate the new Bengali year 1422 at Fudkipara open stage and the city corporation authority is scheduled to open the programme at 7.00 am on April 14.
District administration chalked out a daylong Barshabaran programme which included colourful procession, cultural function at Shishu Academy open stage and serving panta bhat at circuit house.
Baishakhi processions will parade different roads carrying colourful festoons, placards and banners, wearing masks and singing Boishakhi songs.
Businessmen in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places in both rural and urban areas are taking preparation to organize traditional Halkhata and to distribute sweets among their customers.
Baishakhi Melas, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll- dances, Nagor Dola, kite flying competitions and discussions meeting on Pahela Baishakh will also be held in the city and upazila towns to welcome the Bengali New Year 1420.
Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi College, Rajshahi Medical College and other educational institute have chalked out separate Baishakhi programmes.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The divisional city of Rangpur has worn a colourful look to celebrate Pahela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year 1422, amid huge enthusiasm, fanfare and traditional festivity today(Tuesday).
The district and police administrations, authorities of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and other concerned organisations have completed all preparations and taken adequate security measures to welcome Pahela Boishakh in a peaceful atmosphere.
According to official sources, massive day-long programmes have been chalked out to welcome Pahela Boishakh with traditional festivities, glories and cultural heritage of the Bangalees in line with the spirit of War of Liberation.
The different government, non-government, socio-cultural, professional, business and other organisations, private bodies, educational institutions,have chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
The district administration in association with a dozens of the other organisations will bring out the main Boishakhi procession in the city streets in the morning to welcome the Bengali New Year 1422.
The colourful celebrations will begin in the morning through traditional Boishakhi programmes to be performed by the artists of Sommilito Sangskriti Jyote on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city. Improved diets will be served to inmates of the hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, orphanages, shishu paribars, vagabond centres and orphanages in the district.
Besides, Boishakhi processions carrying colourful festoons, placards, banners, wearing masks and singing Boishakhi songs, Palli Geeti, Jarigan, Vatiali, Baul, Lalon Geeti, Nazrul Geeti and Rabindra Sangeet, folk and classical songs will be brought out.
The celebration of ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’, the last day of the outgoing year, has already begun in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places from today through arranging ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts by clearing previous dues.

City Mayor and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahamed Jhantu will inaugurate the newly built Chikleer Beel Entertainment Park in the city for the commoners and inaugurate Boishakhi Mela there on the occasion of welcoming the Pahela Boishakh.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht will attend the main
discussion meeting by the district administration at the Central Shaheed Minar premises with Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad in the chair.
