UNB, Rangamati :
The government has started releasing carp fries in the Kaptai lake as well as compensating the fishermen of the area for the three-month ban on fishing, which has been in effect since May 8.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Haq inaugurated the programme aimed at boosting fish output from the country’s largest man-made lake.
About 32 tones carp fries will be released in the Kaptai water while about 18000 fishermen will be provided with Volunteer Group Feeding (VGF) support for three months under the programme.
Earlier on May 8, the district administration banned fishing in the lake for the next three months.
