The nationwide strike at educational institution called by left-leaning Progotisheel Chhatra Jote (progressive student’s alliance) protesting BCL attack on general students at DU on January 23, observed peacefully in Barisal on Monday.
PCJ activists went to classes of different departments called the students to join in their programmes including observing the strike.
Then they brought out procession and done posturing at Barisal Govt. BM College campus.
An agitation rally was held at zero-point of the campus presided over by Jahangir Hossain, Chhatra Union college unit president, and addressed among others by Manisha Chakraborty, Dipangkar Kundu, Mozammel Huq Sagor, Santa Mitra, leader of the alliance.
The speakers condemned the BCL attacks on general students at DU and other educational institutions of the country. They demanding punishment of the attackers called to ensure proper education-friendly environment at the educational campuses and safety and security of the students.
Dr. Manisha Chakrabarty, convener, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal said, `We observed peaceful strike in all educational institutions including Govt. BM College protesting the BCL attack on January 23 at the office of Dhaka University Vice Chancellor. However Shafiqur Rahman, principal, Govt BM College, claimed classes and examinations were not hampered in the campus due to strike.
Sufficient police deployed at BM College campus area to prevent any unwanted situation, said Awlad Hossain, Officer in Charge of Kotwali Police Station.
