Former Chittagong University (CU) vice chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan on Thursday joined the University Grants Commission (UGC) as its 12th chairman.
A notice issued by the UGC stated that Prof Abdul Mannan replaced its 11th chairman Prof AK Azad Chowdhury, whose term ended on Thursday.
Prof Azad served CU as its vice chancellor from 1996 to 2001.
He was a part-time member of the UGC.
He was also a member of the Shamsul Haque Education Commission during 1998-99.
