Members of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Professor Mohammad Ali Hossain Malik, a former Vice-Principal of Eden Women College.
The arrested persons were identified as assassinated Professor Malik’s driver Masud, 38 and employee Syed Fokir alias Saiful and Sujon, 18.
A special squad of RAB-3 arrested Masud from the city’s Mirpur area on Monday night. Later, based on information extracted from the driver Masud, Saiful and Sujon were arrested from Barisal.
“In association with Saiful and Sujon, the driver
Masud murdered Professor Malik for money,” RAB-4 Commanding Officer Khandakar Lutful Kabir told journalists at a press conference in the city on Tuesday.
He said Masud killed Professor Malik for taking away Tk 19 lakh from him (Malik). Earlier October 9, Tk 19 lakh was withdrawn from a city bank on, the official added.
“After killing Professor Malik, the trio took away Tk 1.5 lakh from the office,” Lutful Kabir said, adding they also recovered Tk 1.27 lakh from their possessions. The 65-year-old retired professor was found dead at his office in Old DOHS on October 11. He was a professor of Eden Women College’s Zoology Department.
