The government has appointed Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, secretary general of Peshajibi Samannay Parishad, a platform of pro-Awami League professionals, as the Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Health and Family Welfare Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday, said a BSMMU press release on Tuesday.
It said President Abdul Hamid appointed Dr Kamrul Hasan, also a professor at the BSMMU Pathology Department, as the VC for a three-year term.
Prof Kamrul Hasan has also been serving as the general secretary of BSMMU Teachers’ Association since 1999, the release added.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed VC took over charge on Tuesday. Prof Hasan replaced Prof Pran Gopal Datta who served the university as VC twice since March 25, 2009.
Prior to his joining, Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahamn at Bangabandhu Complex at Dhanmondi and at his mural at Block-D of BSMMU in the capital.
BSMMU Pro-VC Prof Dr Mohammad Shahidullah Shikdar, Dean of Preventive and Social Medicine Faculty Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed were, among others, present on the occasion.
