Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BTFO joined as the fourth Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on Wednesday morning.
He said the university will be a center of excellence and offer global standard of education and conduct research. All necessary steps will be taken to turn the university in this regard.
The VC was addressing the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university after joining at his new office in the campus this morning.
Registrar of BRUR Muhammad Ibrahim Kabir, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university welcomed the new VC with bouquet on behalf of different faculties, departments and offices.
After taking over the charge, the VC cleared salary of the last month and Eid bonus for teachers, officials and employees, signed several important files and approved the examination results for 15 batches of different nine departments.
Later in the afternoon, the new VC went to village Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila and placed wreaths at the grave of renowned nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah and offered prayer. Teachers of different departments and officials accompanied the VC.
Earlier, President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the university Abdul Hamid appointed Professor Dr Kalimullah as the new BRUR VC on June 1 last for the next four-year term as per clause 10(1) of Begum Rokeya University Ordinance 2009. A professor of Department of Public Administration of Dhaka University, Dr Nazmul Ahasan Kallimullah had been serving on deputation as Pro Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals before joining as VC of BRUR.
Former vice-chancellor AKM Nurunnabi, a professor of Population Science Department of Dhaka University retired on May 5 as the VC of BRUR. The post remained vacant since then.
