Gas supply begins from Moheskhal Terminal: Production resumes in CUFL after 9 months

The productions of Urea Fertilizer from the state owned Chattogram Urea Fertilizer Company Ltd(CUFL) has resumem from midnight of September 13 after 9 months shut down of the factory lack of gas supply.
This state owned largest fertilizer producing factory was declared closed on December 22 last lack of gas supply . Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company after long gap of nine months ,resumed its gas supply to CUFL from Sept 04 last on test basis (startup preparations) but finally resumes productions from mid night of September 13 last.
 Managing Director of KGDCL Engr. Khair Ahmed Majumder admitted the matter supply Thursday last and said as per requirement of the CUFL , KGDCL is ready to supply. On Sept 14 , KGDCL supplied 45mm cft gas to CUFL .
It is feared whether the factory is possible to operate produc tion in full swing after availability of gas as its machineries remained inoperative for the last 9 months.
This state owned properties of about Tk.10,000 crores was going to be ruined for want of only natural gas. Following the long shut down of factory, production machineries becomes weak and some machinery parts detected rust .
 After LNG gas transmission in Chattogram, CUFL authority repeatedly demanding gas supply from KGDCL. Following the demands of CUFL, KGDCL has taken quick decision to supply gas to CUFL aimed at saving the large national property. CUFL sources said the daily average demand of gas in the factory is about 50mncft.
This quantity of gas is simultaneously used as fuel of the factory , on the other hand used as raw materials urea fertilizer.
 Lack of gas supply , this factory was closed down in December last. An official of BCIC on condition of anonymity told that it will be ascertained the productivity of factory after gas supply in full swing subject to detection of any faults in production machineries due to long time shut down of the 30 years old factory.
At the same time KGDCL also supplying LNG to KAFCO (a multinational fertilizer producing unit) beside the CUFL at 45 mm cft gas.
Mentionable that following the increasing demand of urea fertilezer in the country, this public sector industrial unit was commissioned on October 29, 1987 on south bank of river Karnaphuli.
The average productions a day in the factory was 30 thousand sacks of urea . Concerned officials told that lack of gas supply with frequent shut down ,this state owned giant ferlitizer factory was on the verge of ruination .
 KGDCL chief further said regular gas supply will be continued to CUFL, KAFCO and the gas turbine power plants of Chattogram subject to available of gas at present quantity of 300 mm cft from national grid.
