A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the submission of probe report in the case filed against Sharmin Jahan, Proprietor of Aparajita International to next January 25.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakr Siddique passed the order after hearing on Sunday.
Accused Sharmin was a former Awami League leader and she was sued in the present case for supplying fake N95 mask
to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)’s Isolation unit. The Investigation Officer could not submit the report in the on Sunday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam on September 10 granted her bail after her lawyer moved a bail petition.
In his order, the magistrate noted that the accused is a female and she has a baby. Moreover, she was placed on a three-day remand after her arrest and the remand report is usual. So, her bail was granted considering the situation. General Recording Officer (GRO) Nizamuddin Fakir confirmed to media people.
Earlier on July 24, Sharmin, former Assistant Registrar of the Dhaka University Registrar Office, was arrested from the capital’s Shahbagh area. The following day, she was placed on a three-day remand in the case.
BSMMU Proctor Prof Syed Mozaffar Ahmed filed the case against Sharmin Jahan, a member of Awami League’s Central Sub-Committee on Women and Children, with Shahbagh Police Station on July 23. Earlier, she was a leader of Chhatra League.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), BSMMU authorities decided to purchase safety gears for the frontline doctors of newly launched Covid-19 unit on May 27.
Receiving verbal instructions from BSMMU authorities, several companies submitted samples of masks. Those were later sent to Dysin International Limited, a DGHS approved laboratory, for tests. The lab report mentioned Aparajita International’s samples to be the best. Later, BSMMU authorities sought pricing of the masks from Aparajita International on June 23 and received the quotation on the next day.
On June 27, BSMMU issued work order to provide 11,000 N95 masks in the name of Aparajita International.
The company then supplied around 3,460 N95 masks in four consignments- between June 30 and July 13.
