Staff Reporter :
Finance Minister AMA Muhith said yesterday that the complete probe report of the $101 million heist from Bangladesh Bank (BB) will be made public by September 24.
“The report will be made public before I leave for Washington on September 24,” the minister told journalists after meetings with Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Masato Watanabe and a delegation of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) at the Finance Ministry.
The Minister said, the ministry is delaying to make the report public as the central bank is taking crucial steps to recover the heist money.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Finance expressed its dissatisfaction over the ministry’s decision not to release the probe report on Bangladesh Bank heist to the public.
The committee also called for the release of the report immediately.
Following a meeting held last week, Standing Committee Chairman Abdur Razzak said: “Bangladesh’s global image was more important than the stolen US$81 million.” “The probe report should be published. People should know the names of the masterminds behind this heist and they should be brought to book,” he said. The head of the three-member investigation committee Dr Muhammad Farashuddin submitted the probe report on the central bank’s reserve heist to the finance minister on May 30.
