Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Tuesday said the investigation in the case filed over ‘militant explosion ‘ at Hotel Olio International in city’s Panthapath last year, is in the final stage.
“A total of 14 militants have been arrested in connection with the case. Of them, ten have given confessional statements. The purpose of the militants was to draw attention internationally through carrying out sabotage activities at Dhanmondi Road 32 but police foiled their plan,” he said while speaking at a press briefing at Dhanmondi Road 32.
On August 15 in 2017, police conducted an anti-militant drive codenamed “August Bite” at the hotel and prevented a possible attack on those marching towards Dhanmondi Road No 32, marking the Mourning Day.
A member of New JMB blew himself up on August 15 at Hotel Olio International at Panthapath, situated only about 300m away from the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
The incident took place just three hours after President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other high-ups of the government had paid their respects to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
