UNB, Dhaka :
A court here on Thursday extended time by three months more for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to further investigate the much-talked-about Maj Gen Manzur murder case.
Dhaka First Additional District and Sessions Judge (acting) Badrul Alam Bhuiyan passed the order after the investigating agency submitted a time petition, and fixed January 8, 2015 for submitting the investigation report, said
Additional Public Prosecutor Asaduzzaman Khan.
The investigation officer (IO) submitted the time petition as he failed to complete the task of preparing the further investigation report on the case within the deadline.
Earlier, the court had extended time twice for further investigation into the long-pending case.
According to the case statement, Liberation War hero Maj Gen Abul Manzur Ahmed, BU, was killed in police custody after his capture at Chittagong Cantonment on June 1, 1981, two days after President Gen Ziaur Rahman was assassinated at the local Circuit House in an abortive coup.
Manzur’s brother Barrister Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station, Chittagong, on February 28, 1995, 14 years after the killing.
Later, the case was transferred on security ground to Dhaka from Chittagong for its disposal.
