HC orders Bogra DC: Probe death of baby at Health Complex

The High Court (HC) on Thursday directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bogra to investigate the denial of medical treatment to a pregnant woman at Sherpur Upazila Health Complex and the death of her newborn baby.
The HC also asked the DC to submit the investigation report by December 14
Issuing a Suo Moto rule, the HC summoned the Residential Medical Officer and the nurse of the Health Complex to explain their position into the incident. They will have to remain present in the HC on December 14.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order and with a Suo Moto rule in view of a report published in different newspapers about the incident.
The HC issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why legal actions should not be taken against those who were responsible for the incident that took place on November 29.
A Supreme Court lawyer, Shamim Sordar, submitted the report to the High Court bench seeking necessary orders.
Home Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, Police Superintendent and Civil Surgeon of Bogra, UNO of Sherpur, Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Police Station and the Residential Medical Officer of Sherpur Upazila Health Complex have been asked to comply with this rule.
According to the report, Majeda Begum, a pregnant woman with labour pain, was taken to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex in Bogra, but she was driven out of the hospital with a suggestion to get admitted to the adjacent clinic. Later, she gave birth to a baby on the way to the clinic which died due to cold.
