The probe body, which was formed to investigate murder of seven people in Narayanganj, has sought one more month to complete their investigation.The body submitted its progress report on its investigation to the Attorney General (AG) office on Wednesday for placing it before the HC.Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Law Ministry and a member of the probe body, submitted the report to the AG office in the afternoon. “We have filed a primary progress report to the HC today. We also sought from the High Court one more month to complete our probe,” Mizanur Rahman told the reporters after submission of the report.Abul Kashem Md Mohiuddin, Deputy Secretary of Public Administration Ministry and another member of the probe team said their report was based on media information and public hearings.He, however, refused to make any comment on any findings recorded in the primary progress report. “We will continue our hearings and probe from tomorrow (Thursday).”Another progress report will be submitted to the HC next week, he said.Admitting the matter, Deputy Attorney General Nazmul Haque said, that they have received the report and the AG office would submit it to the HC tomorrow (Thursday).He also refused to disclose the content of the report. With this, six reports have so far been submitted to the AG office on the seven-murders in Narayaganj.Apart from the probe body, the ministries of Home and Public Administration, Inspector General of Police, Rapid Action Battalion and Criminal Investigation Department submitted their reports.Earlier, on May 7, a HC bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gabinda Chandra Tagore directed the government to form a seven-member committee headed by an Additional Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry to probe the killings.The HC bench while passing the order also asked the probe body to submit a progress report on the investigation within seven days.Following the directive of the HC, the government formed the probe panel led by Shahjahan Ali, Additional Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry. The body is now carrying out a mass hearing in Narayanganj.On April 27, panel Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Nazrul Islam and his four aides and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were kidnapped from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road around the same time in broad daylight. Six bodies, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river on April 30, and another was found the following day.The other victims are Swapan, Tajul Islam, Liton, Jahangir and Ibrahim.Allegations have been made against three RAB officials for their involvement in the murder in exchange of Tk 6 crore.The three RAB officials are former Narayanganj RAB 11 Commanding Officer Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Rana.BSS adds: The progress report on the investigation into the Narayanganj seven murders will be submitted before the High Court Thursday (today). At a press briefing yesterday afternoon at his office here, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that the concerned bodies have submitted the progress report in his office on their investigation into the Narayanganj killings. He said the government has taken all possible steps in this regard following the High Court directives. “Departmental action has already been taken against the three defense personnel as allegation of their involvement in the murders has come,” Alam said. 5 ordered the authorities to constitute a seven-member committee to probe into the abduction and murder of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, Advocate Chandan Sarker and five others. The court also asked the concerned to investigate into the allegation brought by the victims’ family by the detective branch (DB) and criminal investigation department (CID) and submit a progress report in seven days. The AG said that the court’s order also asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure security of the victims’ families and the witnesses of the occurrences. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) authorities were also asked to conduct an investigation whether any existing or ex member of it was involved in the occurrences, he said.
