Torture of journo: Probe body recommends departmental action against 8 DB men

The probe committee of Barisal Metropolitan Police finding fact and evidence of torturing journalist Sumon Hasan has recommended departmental action against eight members of Detective Branch (DB) of Barisal Metropolitan Police.
On the other hand, the agitation programme of the journalists continued on Thursday demanded exemplary punishment to the responsible police men for torturing photo
journalist Sumon Hasan on Tuesday.
Runa Laila, Assistant Commissioner of BMP and head of the three-member probe committee on Thursday admitted that the committee after visiting the victim in the hospital, spot of the incident, and after talking with the witnesses found the evidence of torturing journalist Sumon Hasan.
Primarily seven of the accused have been withdrawn from duty and another suspended.
We will submit probe committee report to the concerned authourity as soon as possible recommending stern departmental action against all the eight members of the DB team of BMP connected with the incident, Runa Laila said.
On the other hand, journalist community of Barisal for the third day on Thursday continued their protest programme.
Barisal Television Media Association organized the programme of human chain in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall, sit-in of photojournalists putting camera on road and procession through roads.
It was presided over by Humayun Kabir, president of the association and were participated by representatives of different journalist, professional and socio-political organizations.
Participants and speakers of the programme, vowed to continue their protest movement till justice is established.
