Extortion charges: Probe against Rampura OC, 9 others ordered

A Dhaka court on Tuesday passed order asking Detective Branch of Police to investigate into a case filed against 10 people, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station of the capital.
Magistrate Mohammad Yunus Khan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the concerned zone to submit the probe report by March 8.
The court passed the order after partial hearing
at 11 am and full hearing at 3 pm on Tuesday. US expatriate Shamimunnahar Lipi and also a human rights activist filed the case on different charges, including extortion, theft and negligence of official duties.
The accused persons are Mahbubur Tarafder Rahman, OC of Rampura Police Station, OC (Investigation) of the Police Station Alamgir Bhuiyan, SI Babul, brother of the complainant Arifur Rashid, her brother’s wife Durdana Rashid, son Shahriar Rashid, Arifur Rashid’s friend Humayun alias Lengra Humayun, Tajul Islam, Kabir Hossain Kajal and Md Masud.
The case docket says that the complainant owns some assets including a flat worth Tk 10 million in Khilgaon Taltola area. On August 24 last, accused Arifur Rashid, Durdana Rashid and Shahriar Rashid set the furniture of the flat ablaze to deprive the complainant from enjoying the asset. The incident caused loss of Tk six lakh 78 thousand eight hundred to complainant Lipi. On the other hand the concerned policemen declined to register a case as she went to the Police Station.
