THE Police Investigation Bureau (PIB) has unveiled the mystery behind a spine-chilling crime where a middle-aged woman passenger was killed inside a running bus at Ashulia in the outskirts of Dhaka city. It took hardly seven days for them to crack the case. Police have already arrested the murderers along with its mastermind including a woman and seized the bus. Indeed it’s a praiseworthy act.
Victim Jarina Khatun was killed inside a bus and thrown out when she was returning after visiting her daughter Rozian at Ashulia’s Unique area on November 9. Jarina’s elderly father Akbar Ali Mandol of Khaj Kawali village under Chauhali upazila in Sirajganj was beaten inside the bus and dragged out of the vehicle. Next day Rozina’s husband Nurul Islam filed a case with the police station.
PIB unearthed that, victim Jarina’s daughter Rozina was locked in a family feud with her husband Nurul Islam and mother-in-law Amena Begum for long. Rozina was beaten mercilessly by Nurul recently. He and his mother Amena Begum made Jarina (Rozina’s mother) responsible for fueling the quarrel. And so, they planned to kill Jarina. They contracted a minibus for Taka 10,000 with the help of a relative Swapon and fixed its driver, conductor and two helpers for this crime. According to the plan, the bus was waiting at Shimultola where Jarina and her father boarded. As there was no other passenger, the assailants first beat Jarina’s father and pushed him off. Later they killed Jarina while the bus was moving aimlessly through different roads.
It was widely belived by the general people that the victim was killed in the same way like yet another recent incident where a women passenger (college girl Rupa) was murdered by the transport staffs after gang rape. But it’s a different story. Here, the killers may be transport workers but they had committed the crime as hired killers. It was a sequel of family quarrel; ended in murder.
We do like to congratulate the PIB to crack the murder case in the shortest possible time. The professional skill and expertise of our police department have been proved again. There are many capable officers in our police department who have already kept sign of their expertise and excellence in many occasions. People expect that police would act like pro-people police while each and every crime will be dealt with the same sagacity and sincerity.
