Speakers at a discussion here on Saturday urged all pro-liberation forces to be united against the fundamentalist and terrorist forces.
They said the pro-liberation forces must be vigilant as defeated forces of the War of Liberation are still involved in conspiracy against Bangladesh.
Bangabandhu Parishad organized the discussion titled “Language Movement, Bangalee and Independence” at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) marking the International Mother Language Day and Great Independence Day.
Awami League Advisory Council member and general secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad Dr S A Malek presided over the discussion. Bangabandhu President Mahbub Uddin, Bir Bikram, former vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor Dr Abdul Khaleq, Dhaka University Professor Dr Nim Chandra Bhowmik, Professor Dr Gholam Rabbani and Professor Dr Nazma Shaheen took part in the discussion, among others.
Dr Malek said importance of language movement in achieving country’s independence is immense.
“During the language movement, we had first showed our innate nationalism. We had first expressed that we carry a different nationalism despite being citizen of Pakistan,” he said. Mahbub Uddin said Bangla language will be enriched, if it is practiced at the country’s universities properly. Abdul Kaleq said spirit of War of Liberation cannot be defeated in any time. “So, we all have to advance with the slogan of Joy Bangla,” he added.
