A Dhaka court on Friday placed KM Ziauddin Fahad, the chief administrator of ‘Basher Kella’, an unauthorized Facebook (FB) page of pro-Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir, on an 8-day remand to grill him.
Earlier, a special team of Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested
Fahad following secret information from Comilla district on Thursday.
Fahad who also used to run more than 50 other notorious face book pages, has been spreading radical religious messages and inciting attacks on pro-liberation forces.
Monirul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner and spokesman of DB, said that Fahad was detained from his sister’s house in Comilla Cadet College residential area on Thursday afternoon.
He used to malign and threaten pro-liberation and other progressive lobbies for their viewpoints, the detective official said.
Police have confiscated a laptop and two mobile phones from Fahad, who is also an habitant of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong district, he said.
Fahad admitted that he is the ‘chief coordinator’ of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s publicity wing, Monirul claimed.
He used to run online propaganda under the name of ‘Biplob Dahan’ and ‘Truth Fighter’, the DB official said.
The DB spokesman said that Fahad was working as the administrator of over 50 Facebook pages including ‘Basher Kella’, ‘Basher Kella USA’, ‘Titumir’s Basher Kella’, ‘Awami Tribunal’, ‘Baksal Nipat Jaak’, ‘I am Bangladesh’, ‘Digital Rupe Baksal’, ‘BAN Banshkhali News-24’, ‘Islami Online Activist’, ‘Tarun Prajanma’, and ‘Vision 2021’.
These pages shared caricatures of the judiciary, police and writers, and issued death threats, the DB man said.
On February 18 in 2014, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested another administrator of Basher kella, Rasel Bin Sattar Khan. Rasel was a final year student of Jute Technology department of Tangail Textile Institute, the elite force sources said.
Rasel publicised the “audio clip of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri” by uploading it in different websites, they said.
