Pro-BNP panel sweeps BAUTA poll

Pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) panel has won the victory at the Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) election held on Thursday.
Prof Dr Khandokar Shariful Islam of Entomology Department and Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam Sarder of Fisheries Biology and Genetics department from pro-BNP panel were elected president and general secretary of BAUTA respectively. The BNP backed candidates survived the polls in 7 seats out of 11, losing the rest to Awami League backed panel.
A total of 426 teachers cast their votes beginning from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the BAU Teachers’ Club without any recesses, said chief election commissioner Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman.
Other elected candidates from the BNP-backed panel are- Prof Dr Khandokar Mostafizur Rahman of Agril. Economics department (treasurer), Dr. Abdullah Iqbal of Food Technology and Rural Industries department (joint-secretary) and the three members are Prof Dr Gias Uddin Ahmed of Aquaculture department, Dr. Tahsin Farzana of Phraseology Department, Prof Dr Abu Jafor Md. Moslay Uddin of Soil Science department.
Elected candidates from Awami League-backed panel are- Prof Dr AKM Azad-ud-Daula Prodhan of Crop Botany department (vice-president), and the members are Prof Dr Md. Abul Hossain of Seed Science department, Prof Dr Md. Abdul Alim of Food Technology and Rural Industries department, Prof Dr Fakir Ajmol Huda of Agri. Economics department.
