BNP-Jamaat’s Blue panel won landslide victory in the Dhaka Bar Association Election 2017-2018 by defeating the pro-Awami League White panel.
Of the 27 posts, the Blue panel secured 21 posts, including the President and General Secretary portfolios, while the Awami League backed White panel bagged the remaining six posts, including that of the Treasurer. Meanwhile, the recounting of the votes for the post of Senior Vice-President will be held on Monday between pro-BNP candidate Md Ruhul Amin and White panel’s Kazi Shahanara Yasmin.
Advocates Md Khorshed Alam, Kazi Md Abdul Barik, Md Azizul Islam Khan Bachchu and Syed Nazrul Islam were elected President, Vice- President, General Secretary and Senior Assistant Secretary respectively. White panel’s Abdur Rahman Howlader, Md Monjur Alam Monju, Md Ayubur Rahman and Mustafizur Rahman Talukder Dipu were their rivals in the race. Contrarily, Md Hasibur Rahman Dider from the White panel was elected the Treasurer. Md Lutfar Rahman Azad was his rival.
Of the 16,198 voters, 8,910 exercised their franchise in the two-day election that began on Wednesday (February 22).
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Khondokar Abdul Mannan declared the results early Saturday. It may be said that the ruling Awami League backed panel won 21 posts, including the posts of President and General Secretary, in the 2016-2017 session, while rival pro-BNP supported panel earned six posts.
