UNB, Dhaka :
Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, on Friday announced a three-day countrywide demonstration programme to press for its various demands, including the resignation and arrest of Law Commission Chairman ABM Khairul Haque, for belittling the Supreme Court.
Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, secretary general of the forum, came up with the announcement at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
He said all the district bar associations of the country will stage the demonstrations on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday next, also to protest ministers’ offensive comments against the Supreme Court and push for their demand for publishing a gazette clarifying the service rules for lower court judges.
Khokon urged the Ainjibi forum leaders to observe the programmes spontaneously to make those a success. “I call upon those believe in the rule of law, constitution and democracy to join the programme.”
He said Khairul Haque in his verdict that annulled the 13th constitutional amendment stated that the judges should not hold any profitable post of government offices after their retirement. “He himself breached his verdict holding the post of Judicial Service Commission chairman.”
Khokon said Haque is a public servant since he is holding the post of chairman of the Judicial Service Commission. “As a public servant, he has some limitations and a code of conduct to follow.”
As per the code of conduct, he said, Haque cannot hold a press conference to give his opinion on the Supreme Court verdict. “He has violated the code of conduct. Not only that, we think he has belittled the Supreme Court through his statements on the 16th amendment verdict.”
The Ainjibi Forum leader also said they think some ministers also breached their oaths by criticising the Supreme Court verdict. “So, they’ve lost their rights to hold the posts of ministers.”
