Pro-Awami League panel wins Dhaka Bar elections

The pro-Awami League White panel won landslide victory in the annual election of the Dhaka Bar Association securing 17 posts including the post of President, General Secretary and Treasurer, while the BNP-backed Blue panael bagged the remaining six posts.
 The two days’ election of the biggest bar of the country began on Wednesday and voting continued from 9 am to 5 pm till Thursday with an hour rest from 1 pm to 5 pm.
Of the White panel Mahbubur Rahman was elected President, Md Delwar Hossain Patwary Senior Vice President, AKM Shafiqul Islam (Swapan) Vice President, Md Firojur Rahman (Monto) General Secretary and Mohammod Nur Hossain Treasurer.
Others elected from this panel are- Senior Assistant General Secretary Md Emanur Rhoman, Assistant General Secretary Mohammad Abu Sayeed Siddique (Tipu), Taslima Yeasmin (Dipa) Cultural Secretary, Muhammad Arkan Miah Office Secretary and Md Moniruzzaman Khan (Monir) was elected Office Secretary.
Seven candidates from the pro-Awami League panel were elected Executed Committee members. They are- Abu Sufiyan, Golam Emam Hossain, Imtiaj Mahmud (Prince), Md Abul Basher, Md Jahangir Alam (Jahid), Md Rakibul Islam (Rakib) and Md Shamiul Islam (Prince).
Of the 23 candidates of pro-BNP Blue panel Md Rafiqul Islam was elected Library Secretary while Md Mosharraf Hossain Molla elected Social Welfare Secretary.
Four candidates from the Blue panel were elected Executive Committee members and they are-Faridul Hasan (Tusher), Foysal Kabir (Sourov), Md Mosiur Rahman (Manik) and Md Mozahidul Islam.
 Of the voters, 11,382 cast their votes in the two days’ Dhaka Bar Association Election 2022-2023. However, of more than 27,600 lawyers of Dhaka Bar Association, 19,847 were enlisted as voters. The lawyers from the pro-Awami League White Panel and pro-BNP, Blue panel contested in the election of the biggest bar association of the country. The result of the election was declared on Saturday after counting the cast votes.  
From each panel 23 lawyers contested 23 posts. Besides them, other two lawyers were in the race for the positions of President and General Secretary as independent candidates.
The result of the election is expected to be declared on Saturday after counting the cast votes. Of the more than 27,600 lawyers of Dhaka Bar Association, 19,847 have been listed as voters of the bar.
