The pro-Awami League professionals on Saturday staged demonstration in the city protesting the killing of innocent people through arson attacks during the ongoing hartal-blockade of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
A number of people from different professions, including cultural personalities, businessmen, teachers, lawyers, doctors, journalists and sportsmen, took part in the programme and demanded stopping violence in the name of movement.
They brought out a silent procession from in front of the National Press Cub in the morning. The procession ended at the
Central Shaheed Minar followed by a silent sit-in programme there. The sit-in was continued for about two hours.
Meanwhile, Manobadhikar Bastobayon Sangstha, a human rights organisation, arranged a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club on the same issue.
Speakers at the rally demanded to stop the killing of people through violence immediately, saying those who fall victims to petrol bomb attacks and violence are innocent and mostly poor.
