Pro-AL panel sweeps SUST teachers’ assoc polls

The pro-Awami League panel, Mahan Muktizuddher Chetanay Udbuddha Shikkhak Parishad, has swept the teachers’ association elections of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
The wining panel bagged nine positions, including the posts of president and general secretary, out of 11 posts of the executive committee.
Another pro-AL teachers’ forum, Mahan Muktizuddher Chetana O Muktachinta Charchay Oikyabaddha Shikkhak Parishad, got the rest two posts of the committee while pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat teachers’ panel failed to win any position in the polls, the university teachers said.
Chemistry department professor SM Saiful Islam and social science professor Anwar Hossain were elected president and general secretary of the teachers’ association respectively.
Social work professor Amina Parvin and civil engineering and environmental science professor Zahir-bin Alam were elected executive members from the AL-backed left-leaning panel.
Asif Iqbal, election commissioner of the polls, announced the results early Wednesday.
