Pro-AL panel sweeps CUTA polls

The Awami League-backed Yellow Panel bagged all the 11 posts of the executive committee of the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association, sweeping the CUTA election, held on Wednesday.
Professor Dr Mihir Kumar Roy of physics department and Prof Dr Mohammad Moazzam Hossain of management department were elected president and general secretary respectively.
Chief election commissioner Prof Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin announced the result at 7:30pm on the day, saying all the eleven posts of the executive body was bagged to pro-AL yellow panel.
The other elected members are Professor Mahbubul Hoque as Vice-President, Associate Professor Abdul Hoque of Geography and Environmental Science Department as Treasurer and Assistant Professor Madhab Chandra Das as Joint Secretary.
The other executive members – Pharmacy Department Professor Md Kamrul Islam, Marketing Department Professor SM Salamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Fine Arts Institute Associate Professor Shaela Sharmin, eEectronics and Communication Engineering Department Assistant Professor Ariful Islam, Political Science Department Assistant Professor Bakhtear Uddin, and Institute of Education Research Assistant Professor Iftekhar Arif.
A total of 691 teachers out of 825 cast their votes in the election. The polls began at social science faculty auditorium from 9:00 am and continued till 1.30pm.
Meanwhile, the university vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ifthekahr Uddin Chowdhury and Pro- Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Shireen Akther greeted the newly- elected office- bearers.
