Pro-AL faction lay siege to JU admin building

A faction of pro-Awami League teachers group of Jahangirnagar University laid siege to the administrative building on Sunday demanding immediate syndicate meeting of the university.

Muktijuddher Chetanay Biswashi Pragatishil Shikkhak Samaj took position in front of the main gate of the administrative building around 8:30 am to 3 pm.
Farid Ahmed, Associate Professor, spokesperson of the group, said, ‘The promotion of teachers, certificate approvals of students, results of different departments have been stuck due to the regular syndicate meeting of the university for the nine months as the authorities concerned of the university failed to arrange syndicate meeting during the time.’
Without calling the syndicate meeting, a selection board was call for recruiting four more teachers in physics department which is illogical, he said.
Farid Said, “We meet the vice chancellor Prof Farzana Islam on Thursday and urged her to hold regular syndicate meeting as many teachers promotion, students certificate was stuck more than nine months.”
He also threatened to go for tough movement if any irregularities will occur in the university.
JU Vice Chancellor Prof Fazana Islam said, “The siege programme is illogical, for this we have to bear huge amount of loss as we are forced to cancel our important boards, many candidates from home and abroad were present for viva but they failed to participate following the teacher programme.”
About the syndicate meeting, she said, “We call the syndicate meeting anytime, if the situation will improve”
After the appointment of Farzana Islam as vice-chancellor for her second term, this teachers’ group has been demonstrating against her alleged irregularities.
