Awami League-backed yellow panel has swept victory in all 15 posts of Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) election against BNP’s white panel on Monday. The election to the RUTA’s 15-member executive committee was held at Juberi Bhaban from 8:00am to 2:00pm on Monday.
Prof Saiful Islam, chief election commissioner, declared the result of RUTA polls at 6:45pm on Monday after casting votes.
Yellow panel’s Prof Kamrul Hasan Majumdar of geology and mining and Prof Pranab Kumar Pandey of public administration were elected as president and general secretary respectively.
Prof Morttuja Khaled of history, Prof M Habibur Rahman of chemistry and Prof Moshihur Rahman of mass communication and journalism department were also elected as vice president, treasurer and joint secretary respectively. The 10 elected members of yellow panel are Prof K M Rabiul Islam of social work, Prof M Enayet Hossain of Marketing, Dr Mst. Ferdousi Mahal of botany, Dr M Ashadul Islam of genetic engineering and biotechnology, Dr M Nazimul Haque of Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS), Prof Dr Provash Kumar Karmakar of statistics, Dr M Atoyar Hossain of applied physics and electronic engineering, Dr Rubayat Yeasmin of information and communication engineering, Prof M Ashraf-Uj-Jaman of Islamic studies and Prof Golam Faruk of fine arts department. The BNP-Jamaat backed white panel’s candidate for the president and general secretary posts, Prof Afrauzzaman Khan Chowdhury of finance and banking and Prof Amirul Islam of biochemistry and molecular biology were beaten by 108 and 23 votes respectively.
