Business Desk :
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shajahan Kamal on Thursday said local privet airlines need to be more cautious in running their business.
He said this while inaugurating the three-day Dhaka International Tourism Fair-2018 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism publication of the country, organised the fair for the 15th time with US Bangla Airlines being its title sponsor and Bangladesh Tourism Board and Biman Bangladesh Airlines supporting it as partners.
The foreign airlines are more careful and sincere about the safety of passengers, said the minister adding that the country’s airlines need to be more alert and prudent in selecting pilots, cabin crew and determining aircraft conditions.
“Bangladesh tourism sector is doing well by contributing 6 percent to GDP and in the forthcoming year it’ll increase to 6.1 percent,” he said.
Bangladesh Monitor editor Kazi Wahidul Alam said private airlines were contributing much to the expansion of tourism but a pathetic accident has occurred which also can affect the flourish of the sector.
A one-minute silence was observed at the beginning of the programme in honour of the Kathmandu plane crash victims.
Forty-eight organisations from different countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in the fair showcasing their products and services at five pavilions and 60 booths at the fair.
