An under trial prisoner tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat with sharp metallic part of his hand cuff at the dock in senior judicial magistrate court in Nilphamari on Monday out of frustration complaining that he was staying in jail for long time.
Court police instantly prevented him and taken to emergency ward of Nilphamari 250 -Bed Hospital in injured condition.
Court inspector Shahid Shuhrawardi of informed that the accused is identified as Jahidul Islam Bakul (30), son of Abdul Mannan of Laxmipur village at Kachua upazila in Chadpur district.
He stayed with his family at Saidpur upazila town of Nilphamari district as his father was a retired employee of Saidpur railway workshop.
GRO (General registered officer) Saidpur court Porimal Roy of Nilphamari judgeship informed that Jahidul Islam along with three other accused were brought to the senior judicial magistrate court in early afternoon being accused of the case G,R 157/19, Saidpur police station case number-17 filed on 29 September 2019 which is relating to a theft case.
The GRO also informed that Jahidul Islam was taken to Nilphamari court today as accused of a case filed in Saidpur police station from neighbouring Thakurgaon district jail where he was imprisoned for long time as accused of two other cases.
As the senior judicial magistrate Sahadev Chandra Roy after hearing issued arrest order to send him to jail, accused Jahidul aloudly said to the judge that he had been imprisoned in Thakurgaon jail in a number of cases for long time and had become impatient.
Saying so, he tried to commit suicide by starting to to cut his throat on the dock with the sharp metallic part of his hand cuff making himself injured.
The court GRO Porimal Chandra Roy along with attending force instantly rescued him and took to the emergency ward of Nilphamari 250 bed hospital.
Residential medical officer of the hospital Dr Shafi Mahmud informed that his condition improving and it would take some weeks for his recovery.
