A prison guard died in the Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday morning. He was electrocuted while hanging wet clothes with a rope inside the jail.
The deceased has been identified as Ratan Khan, 35, son of Ali Azam, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s (DMCH) Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque said that Ratan came in contact with a live electric wire at about 9:15am when he was hanging wet clothes with a rope in a staff quarter inside the
jail in the city. He was rushed to the DMCH where the duty doctors declared him dead on arrival, the police official said.
The body had been handed to the relatives of the deceased after autopsy at DMCH morgue, the SI said.
